Hugo Calderano fala sobre experiência nas etapas nacionais de 2008 e 2009

Promessa do tênis de mesa brasileiro, atleta das divisões de base da seleção conquistou o ouro no individual e a prata por equipes, nas Olimpíadas Escolares

Hugo Calderano sempre foi um apaixonado por esportes. Ele já jogou vôlei, foi convocado para a seleção carioca mirim e venceu até um campeonato estadual mirim de salto em distância, mas foi no tênis de mesa que ele realmente se encontrou. Uma das principais revelações da modalidade dos últimos tempos, Hugo trocou o Fluminense pelo Círculo Italiano, no início do ano, onde treina com grandes nomes do tênis de mesa nacional, como Gustavo Tsuboi e Cazuo Matsumoto. Para isso, o jovem de 15 anos deixou a cidade do Rio de Janeiro, a família e os amigos para morar com o avô, em São Caetano do Sul, no interior de São Paulo.

O atleta já é considerado um forte candidato a representar o Brasil nas Olimpíadas Rio-2016. Só neste ano, o mesatenista foi campeão sul-americano latino americano pela seleção brasileira de base, na Colômbia , no Peru, e faturou o ouro no Aberto da Suécia Sub-16. Em suas duas passagens pelas Olimpíadas Escolares, de 12 a 14 anos, em Poços de Caldas (MG), Hugo alcançou importantes conquistas com o colégio Santo Inácio, do Rio de Janeiro. Se na primeira, em 2008, o jovem ficou com o primeiro lugar por equipes e o terceiro nas duplas, no ano seguinte, a campanha foi ainda melhor: ouro no individual e prata nas equipes. De acordo com ele, o evento ajudou no seu reconhecimento dentro do esporte.

- Graças ao meu desempenho nas Olimpíadas Escolares ganhei o Prêmio Brasil Olímpico de melhor atleta escolar em 2009 e também pude receber a Bolsa Atleta – revelou.

O mesatenista acredita que o torneio estudantil também é uma oportunidade para se descobrir novos talentos e motivar os alunos a praticar atividade física. Mas, segundo ele, há ainda muito a se fazer, principalmente nas escolas públicas, que precisam melhorar as condições e a infraestrutura oferecidas aos estudantes.

- As escolas não incentivam muito o esporte. É uma pena, pois está provado que praticar atividade física ajuda a melhorar o desempenho escolar, traz hábitos mais saudáveis e aproxima o jovem de pessoas com os mesmos objetivos.

O atleta que sonha em disputar uma Olimpíada e estar entre os 20 melhores do ranking mundial, contou que o Brasil tem uma nova geração de jogadores que promete trazer bons resultados no futuro.

- As Olimpíadas no Rio-2016 vão trazer muitas oportunidades para os atletas. Temos que aproveitar esse momento para desenvolver o tênis de mesa.

Até lá, Hugo continua a fazer o que ele mais sabe: treinar e competir, sempre em busca da superação e, para os estreantes, ele dá as dicas: ler, estudar, se interessar por outras atividades e jogar com jogadores de idades e estilos variados, para desenvolver novos recursos de jogo

Sul Americano Mirim 2011

O carioca Diego Dias conquistou a medalha de prata no Campeonato Sul Americano Mirim, realizado no Paraguai de 1 a 5 de setembro. Em sua primeira competição internacional, Diego não se intimidou com os adversários mais experientes e mostrou o resultado de sua dedicação aos treinamentos.
O Brasil conquistou ainda a medalha de bronze com Thomas Uno.
Na categoria até 10 anos, Eduardo Tomoike foi campeão com atuação espetacular, perdendo apenas um set em toda a competição.

Hugo Calderano Causes Major Upset as Brazilians Test Top Seeded Japanese

Defeat for Brazil but defeat with honour and a very clear sign that the country, which enjoys immense success in Latin America, is becoming a more potent force outside the continent’s boundaries.

At the Korean Junior and Cadet Open on Wednesday 24th August 2011, the trio of Hugo Calderano, Eric Jouti and Jeff Yamada gave a performance which the coach on duty, Franciso Arada could be justifiably proud.

They beat the partnership of Singapore’s Clarence Chew and Pang Xue Jie, who joined forces with Korea’s Yu Seongmun, by three matches to one before losing by the same margin to the top seeded Japan ‘A’ Team outfit of Yuto Muramatsu, Maharu Yoshimura and Asuka Saki.

Outstanding
However, they tested the Japanese trio with Hugo Calderano simply outstanding.

The 15 year old from Rio de Janeiro, who has moved to live in São Paulo where all the leading players practise at the São Caetano club, beat both Clarence Chew and Pang Xue Jie in the opening fixture before causing the biggest upset of the tournament to date.

In a gripping full distance five games duel he defeated Yuto Muramatsu, the player who won the Junior Boys’ Singles title at the Spanish Junior and Cadet Open and currently occupies top spot on the ITTF Junior Circuit Boys’ Standing.

Nail-Biting Decider
The Brazilian led 9-7 in the deciding game against the Japanese defender and had the advantage of holding the next two services; he lost both points.

Yuto Muramatsu won the next point to lead 10-9; it appeared the chance had gone for the South American.

Not so, Hugo Calderano showed himself to be a man of character, he won the next three points and had both caused a major surprise and had given Brazil an unexpected boost.

World Rankings
Hugo Calderano stands at no.63 on the World Under 18 Boys’ Rankings, Yuto Muramatsu is at no.14.

Injected Life
Undoubtedly, the win injected Jeff Yamada and Eric Jouti with adrenalin; the former extended Maharu Yoshimura to four games, the latter, who had beaten Yu Seongmun in the previous match, gave Asuka Sakai a real test, a deciding fifth game was needed to determine the outcome.

The narrow defeat suffered by Eric Jouti had turned the tide in favour of Japan; Maharu Yoshimura beat Hugo Calderano in three straight games, the brave challenge was over.

Victory for Japan, defeat for Brazil but a contest in which the South American underlined progress and in Hugo Calderano had a leader to set new standards.

Final
In the final, Japan ‘A’ confront the Korea ‘A’ Team of Kim Dong Hyun, Cho jae Jun and Cheon Min Hyueok.

A direct entry from the group phase to the semi-finals, the second seeds beat the Korea ‘B’ Team of Choi Deok Hwa, Ham So Ri and Lee Seong Bae at the penultimate stage.

Jeff Yamada and Hugo Calderano Guide Brazil to Boys’ Team Titles in Lima

Jeff Yamada excelled in the Junior Boys’ Team event  Photo By: Marcos Yamada 06/22/2011        2011 Latin American Junior & Cadet Championships Unbeaten displays by Jeff Yamada and Hugo Calderano, guided Brazil to the Junior Boys’ and Cadet Boys’ Team titles respectively, at the Latin American Junior and Cadet Championships in the Peruvian capital city of Lima on Tuesday 21st June 2011. The performance recorded by Jeff Yamada underlined the value of a training stint in China and recent coaching sessions under the tutelage of Butterfly’s Toshio Takeda. Brazil’s Wang Hao, the 17 year old who utilises the penhold grip being content to top spin from both sides of the racket, was in superb form; to see a player who is different in a sea of similarity is eye opening. Early Birthday Present Meanwhile, for Hugo Calderano, gold in the Cadet Boys’ Team event was an early birthday present; on Wednesday 22nd June, he celebrates his 15th birthday. Positive Start Brazil, fielding the trio of Jeff Yamada, Eric Jouti and Vitor Ishiy, opened the second day of action in the Junior Boys’ Team event with a three-nil quarter-final victory over the Dominican Republic outfit of David Vila, Geurys Peguro and Isaac Vila; before facing what proved to be their most testing task of the campaign. Not Apparent After First Two Matches They were extended the full five match distance by Puerto Rico, an outcome that did not appear to be in the offing after the first two matches. Jeff Yamada gave Brazil the perfect start by beating Daniel Gonzalez in the opening match of the fixture by the narrowest of margins in the fifth game, before Eric Jouti extended the lead in a second full distance duel. He accounted for Richard Pietri. Puerto Rico Recovers However, Puerto Rico recovered. Brian Afanador, who looks more and more a complete player, overcame Vitor Ishiy, before Daniel Gonzalez levelled matters by defeating Eric Jouti. Matters level, the Brazilian hero of the day came to the rescue; Jeff Yamada beat Richard Pietri to secure a place in the final for his team. Selection Change A place in the final reserved, Raphael Moreira replace Vitor Ishiy in the team and emerged successful in the contest that brought the top two seeded teams together with the top seeds beating the second seeds. The eventual score line was a three-one Brazilian success with, in addition to the success recorded Raphael Moreira, Jeff Yamada and Eric Jouti both accounted for Pablo Saragovi; the one Argentine success came in the very first match of the contest with Juan Daher defeating Eric Jouti. Juan Daher A disappointment for Juan Daher but he could take consolation in the fact that he had remained unbeaten on the second day of play and had regained his form. On the opening day against the Dominican Republic he had lost to both Guerys Peguero and David Vila; he had to thank Adriel di Salvo and Pablo Saragovi was securing an Argentine victory. Different Story However, on day two it was a different story. He led Argentina to a three-nil quarter-final victory over the Venezuelan trio of Jan Medina, Marco Rosas and Hugo Rivas, before overcoming both Gustavo Gomez and Manuel Moya in a three-one semi-final success against Chile. The one further win for Argentina came from Adriel di Salvo in opposition to Sebastian Roman, whilst for Chile, Manuel Moya defeated Pablo Saragovi. Close Third Place Contest Third place went to Puerto Rico, who in gripping contest, recovered from a two matches to nil deficit to beat Chile. Gustavo Gomez opened matters for Chile by beating Daniel Gonzalez and Manuel Moya extended the lead by overcoming Richard Pietri but that was the end of Chilean success. Brian Afandor overcame Alfonso Olave, Daniel Gonzalez defeated Manuel Moya and Richard Pietri concluded matters with victory over Gustavo Gomez. Determining Match Meanwhile, in the Cadet Boys’ Team competition arguably one match determined the destination of the title. At the semi-final stage, in the contest against Argentina, arguably Latin America’s brightest two cadet boys, Hugo Calderano and Fermin Tenti faced each other; whoever won that duel gave his team a massive boost. Laid Foundations The verdict went in favour of Hugo Calderano in five games; the win laid the foundations of victory. Diego Teplitzky levelled matters by beating Massao Kohatsu but wins for Hiago Afonso over Horacio Cifuentes and success for Hugo Calderano in opposition to Diego Teplitzky concluded matters in Brazil’s favour. Cadet Boys’ Team Final A difficult hurdle overcome, the Brazilians were in no mood for charity in the final against Paraguay. Hugo Calderano beat both Sebastian Aguirre and Aljandro Toranzos with Victor Brience defeating Ignacio Rotela in a three match to one success. The one win for Paraguay came from Alejandro Toranzos in the third match of the duel; he beat Hiago Afonso. Alejandro Toranzos Stars for Paraguay One round earlier, Paraguay had beaten Chile three-one to book their place in the Cadet Boys’ Team final largely thanks to the efforts of Alejandro Toranzos. He beat both Sergio Yañez and Juan Lamadrid in the penultimate round duel against Chile with Ignacio Rotela adding the one further victory, he overcame Gerardo Palma. The one success for Chile came from Juan Lamadrid; he accounted for Sebastian Aguirre. Singles Events Matters now turn to the individual events with the group stage of proceedings in the singles events – Junior Boys’ Singles, Junior Girls’ Singles, Cadet Boys’ Singles, Cadet Girls’ Singles – commencing on Wednesday 22nd June 2011. Campeonato Latino americano

Em Lima, o Brasil começou bem o Campeonato Latino americano Infantil e Juvenil. Na competição por equipes foram 4 medalhas. O infantil feminino conquistou a prata, ficando atrás apenas das favoritas Peruanas. O juvenil feminino treminou a competição em terceiro lugar. Sem Carol Kumahara, as brasileiras foram superadas na semi pela equipe de Porto Rico, que tem Carelyn Cordeiro em grande forma e acabou se tornando campeã do torneio. Os meninos do Brasil tiveram um início dourado. Tanto a equipe infantil quanto a juvenil terminaram o campeonato em primeiro lugar com vitórias sobre Paraguai e Argentina rspectivamente.
